Welcome to the World of Aashiq Banarasi
Step into the world of words, emotions, and timeless poetry. I am Aashiq Banarasi—a poet, lyricist, and writer from the culturally rich city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. My journey with poetry began in 2013 when, at the age of 12, I penned my first poem, Pravachan Dete Phirte Hain, Gyaan Koi Nahi Deta! Since then, poetry has been my way of exploring and expressing the depths of human emotions and the beauty of language.
Through my work, I weave together the elegance of Hindi, Urdu, and Persian, creating a tapestry of words that resonate with readers across generations. Over the years, I have written over a hundred Ghazals and more than a thousand Shayaris, each one a reflection of my thoughts, experiences, and dreams. My poetry is not just a form of expression but a way to connect with others, to share in the joys and sorrows that make us human. Whether it's the beauty of nature, the complexity of human relationships, or the simple yet profound moments that make life worth living, my poems aim to capture the essence of it all.
One of my notable works is a poem on COVID-19, which was published on May 21, 2020, in a renowned newspaper in Moradabad. This piece stands as a testament to my commitment to addressing contemporary issues through poetry, using my words to reflect on the challenges we face and the resilience we find within ourselves.
Born and raised in Varanasi—a city that breathes history and spirituality—I have always been inspired by its essence. The city's vibrant culture, its ancient temples, and its serene ghats have all played a role in shaping my perspective and influencing my writing. My academic journey has further nurtured my love for literature. From completing my schooling in Varanasi to earning a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from the University of Calcutta and now pursuing a Master's Degree in Comparative Literature at the University of Hyderabad, each step has deepened my understanding of words and their power to transform.
Beyond poetry, I have ventured into literary scholarship by transliterating Ismat Chughtai's Lihaaf into Hindi—a work now taught as a reference at Vivekananda College in Kolkata. This project reflects my passion for writing and my dedication to preserving and sharing literary heritage. It is a reminder that literature is not just about creating new works but also about honoring the past and ensuring that timeless stories continue to inspire future generations.
This website is more than just a collection of my works; it is a space where stories come alive through verses, where emotions find their voice, and where readers can connect with the soul of poetry. In this world of words, I invite you to join me on a journey through love, life, and the human experience. Together, let's explore the magic of language and the beauty it brings to our lives. Welcome to my world, where poetry is not just a form of expression but a way to connect with the world around us.
